Tornado Stories

Inspired by our literature circle's current reading and discussion of Tornado by Betsy Byers, the following story by Adam continues with a chapter about the dog, Tornado and The Wild Rooster Chase:

It was the year 1996. Once, Tornado met a rooster in the barn. One day the rooster went on the road and came around the bend. And do you know what happened then? The rooster ran down the road, Tornado ran after the rooster. Back at the farm (this is when it gets supsicious), they called Tornado. It was getting dark then. They had to go on the road with a flashlight in the night to chase after the rooster and Tornado. The boy went after the dog, the man went after his boy, the woman ran after the man, it was like a really wild rooster chase with everybody running around with flashlights. They ran around all night until they got tired. It was also raining that night , so they unpacked their knapsack and took out snacks and a tent. They slept until morning when they finally caught the rooster and Tornado. When they all got up again, the man said, "Where did we get the rooster?" Finally the boy speaks up. He said, "We had him since you had me. When I was a baby, the rooster was born too." The boy and the rooster had the same date for their birthdays. So they went back home. But the next year in 1997 we are going to have a goose, not a rooster in our chase. -Adam DeBacker, 5-6-2008
